UN Survey finds just 39% of businesses thing they are taking enough action on SDGs

The UN Global Compact in partnership with the Norwegian registrar DNV GL have asked sustainability representatives from 615 businesses how they are driving progress toward achieving the SDGs. Less than one third of respondents said that their wider sector is moving rapidly enough to deliver adequate progress against the goals, and only 39% believe that their firms are able to meet the Sustainable Development Goals “SDGS” by 2030. Less than half of respondents said that considerations around the SDGs were embedded across all business areas and within key strategic decisions.

Whilst 10,000 organisations have voiced support for the SDGs, these findings compound wider research showing that businesses are better at voicing support for SDGs than meaningfully engaging with the framework. At IMS we believe that there is a significant amount of work to do for businesses to ensure that they can meet the SDGs, this will involve discussions and decision making at the very top levels of management to ensure that sustainable development becomes a key focus for business moving forward.
