Calls for a green recovery from Covid-19
Policy makers are preparing to inject trillions of dollars into their economies to boost economic recovery from Covid-19. However, calls are being made for the spending to also support efforts to tackle climate change.
155 multinational companies that set science-based targets have issued a statement calling on governments around the world to match their ambitions to achieve a zero-carbon economy. In addition, more than 220 state and regional governments issued a statement urging decision-makers to place the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Sustainable Development Goals at the core of economic recovery measures.
Whilst global powers are focused for now on tackling the health pandemic, the voices calling for a green recovery are getting louder and it will be interesting to see whether governments around the world incorporate climate change considerations into their economic recovery plans.
