Construction Talent

The Construction Talent Retention Scheme is aimed to protect workers in the construction industry as the UK begins to rebuild itself and emerge from the Covid-19 pandemic. It will be in the form of an online portal, and will advertise construction vacancies to employ workers who may be at risk of redundancy and will help construction projects by placing at-risk workers on construction projects to prevent a loss of talent in the sector. It will also enable inter-trading of talent so that businesses can “loan” workers to other companies and also enable a transfer of workers into the construction industry from other sectors. Funding for the initiative will be in place until the end of the financial year.

With drops in the number of apprenticeships expected and the looming threat of Brexit which is expected to have a detrimental impact on the UK’s construction workforce, this scheme is a necessary support for a sector expected to build back better but facing challenges within its talent base.
